enrolled in a Washington eighth-grade class
during the school year.
2.
All essays must address the theme: "Why
I will say NO to Alcohol and Drugs."
3.

For each school that participates in the
essay contest, the Washington State Law
Enforcement Association, Inc. requests that
the school principal or class instructor
selects and submits only the three best
essays from all eighth-grade students that
have participated in the contest. This will
assist the Association judges in choosing
the overall winner from a smaller number
of prejudged finalists. Please note that
the criteria the Association judges will
be utilizing to select winners is based
primarily on the essay content and message
with only a minor consideration for spelling
and punctuation.
6.
A statement from the parent/guardian, teacher,
or school principal must accompany each
entry attesting that, to the best of his/her
knowledge, the essay was written unaided
(except for appropriate research and reference).
A single statement from a teacher or principal
is sufficient for a group of entries submitted
from the same class or school.
7.
All winners will be contacted through their
schools by phone or by mail.
8.
All entries must be received at the address
listed below no later than January 31 of
